Vijaydan Detha was born on 1st September 1926. He is a famous Rajasthani short story writer. Popularly known as Bijji he is the co-founder of Rupayan Sansthan with late Komal Kothari. Rupayan Sansthan is an institute that documents Rajasthani folk-lore, arts and music.

He has received the Padma Shri in 2007. Bataan ri Phulwari (Garden of Tales) in Rajasthani and Usha, Atirikta, Priya Mrinal, Sapan Priya and Sahitya aur samaj in Hindi are his major works.
