During the Mughal era in India the temple was attacked and the idol of Lord Shiva got displaced. It was later restored by the Maharaja Shrimant Jayaji Rao Scindia of Scindia dynasty who was the ruling Maharaja of Gwalior under the British rule. He also constructed 69 Shiva temples across the State.
