Shanthinath Temple at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh

Shanthinath temple is one of the prominent Jain temples in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. This temple had been constructed about a hundred years ago with the remains of some old and ruined Jain temples.

In the temple, there is a 14 foot high image of Lord Adinath, with an expression of transcendental calm and bliss on his face. This well polished image has successfully overcome the test of time, with its glossy luster present even today.

On the foot of the image, there is a dedicatory inscription dated AD 1072-1028, now hidden under plaster. The temple is built in a typical Jain architecture style.

In Khajuraho, there is a separate group of Jain temples, comprising of Parswanatha, Adinatha and Shanthinatha temples. These are enclosed within a compound wall on which numerous ancient Jain sculptures can be seen.
