Shumang Leela is a traditional courtyard theatre of Manipur. Traditionally men played the role of women characters also. Shumang Leela was languishing for want of artistes until recently. But a recent one month long workshop on Shumnag Leela attracted many youngsters making an upsurge of interest among aspiring young artistes from all over the state. What is more, out of the 85 artistes who participated many were girls marking a change form the tradition.
