Toys made of Lac were the speciality of Balasore, a city in Orissa. Over the years Balasore has witnessed the decline of Lac toy making while cheap plastic toys from China flooded the market. In the last three years, a group of sixty women in Balasore has taken up the task of reviving Lac toy making. As a result this traditional toy making has manifested an upward trend, especially during the ‘Savitri Vrata’ festival.
