This is an excerpt from an interview of noted Bharatanatyam dancer as well as teacher – Kalanidhi Narayanan by Pali Chandra, a noted Kathak dancer of India. Saranya, a disciple of Kalanidhi is assisting her in this interview.

Kalanidhi Narayanan, who hails from the state of Tamil Nadu in south India, is an eminent teacher, especially on the aspect of abhinaya (acting) in Bharatanatyam, which is a popular classical dance form of India.

She has trained students world over during her teaching career that spans more than three decades.  In 1985, the Govt. of India honoured her with Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in the country.
