Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh is the third largest state in India and is located in the southern region of the country. The state is richly coloured with its Andhra or Telugu cultural heritage. Hyderabad, the capital city, is also famous for its information technology field.
Assam
The state is known as the home of the mighty Brahmaputra River and also the second largest state in north- east India. Guwahati is the most important city. Assam is known as the Tea Garden of India. It is also home to the world’s largest inhabited river island, Majuli.
Delhi
New Delhi is the capital of India and also the place where Indian history lies in the form of monuments. Almost every traffic island and park has a ruin with a history. Rajpath, Parliament house, India Gate, Red Fort and Qutab Minar the are other main attractions here.
Gujarat
Gujarat, the western state of India is one of the most spectacular destinations with historical places like Sabarmati and also museums, wildlife sanctuaries and beaches. Ahmedabad is the gateway to Gujarat and Gandhinagar is its capital city.
Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh, the north western Indian state located at the foot of the majestic Himalayas is known for its favourite snow destinations such as Kullu and Manali. Shimla, one of the popular hill stations, is the capital city of the state.
Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir, a Himalayan state of India is famous for its adventure tourism. The state has two capitals, Srinagar as its summer and Jammu as its winter capital. The Kashmir valley, Ladakh and Jammu are the wonderlands of this snow- capped state.
Karnataka
Karnataka formerly the state of Mysore is known for its powerful empires of ancient and medieval India. This south Indian state is well known for its rare World Heritage Sites and historic monuments. Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore, is the capital city of Karnataka.
Kerala
Kerala is a south Indian state popularly known as God’s Own Country. It is a land with rich historical and cultural heritage. Kuttiyattam and Kathakali are the oldest theatrical art forms in the world and have their origins here.
Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is a state located in the heart of India. Bhopal is the capital city. Khajuraho’s erotic sculptures and Ashoka’s Sanchi Stupa are the World Heritage Sites here.
Maharashtra was the centre of the Maratha Empire and the land of Chhattrapati Shivaji. It is located on the western coast of India. The world famous ancient rock cut cave architectural sites Ajanta and Ellora are in this state. Mumbai, the state capital is also the centre of commerce and entertainment.
Manipur
Manipur or the Land of Jewel known for its serene land and ancient traditions is one of the seven north- eastern states in India. Manipur’s cultural heritage, also known as Meitei, is marked by its unique Ras Leela, the Manipuri classical dance and Thang-ta, the traditional martial art.
Mizoram
Mizoram, Land of the Blue Mountain, is the southernmost outpost of the North- eastern states in India. The Mizos are supposed to be one of the finest choir singers in the north- east. The rich Mizo culture is highlighted by its harvest festivals.
Orissa
Orissa is the state where Konark Sun temple, a World Heritage Site, is located. Oriya is the language spoken here and Bhubaneshwar is its capital. This east coast state of India is famous as the site of the historical Kalinga war.
Punjab
Punjab or the land of five rivers is the home of the Sikh religion in India. Punjab, a border state of India and Pakistan, has its own importance in the Indian history and freedom struggle. Amritsar’s Golden Temple is a world famous religious centre of the state. Chandigarh is the capital city.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan is the desert state of India and is also the land of kings. Thar, the greatest Indian desert and Aravalli ranges, the world’s oldest mountain ranges are located here. Jaipur, the capital city, Udaipur and Ajmer are the finest destinations of Rajasthan.
Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu, the land of Tamil and the state where the great centre of south Indian temple architecture, Tanjore, is situated. Chennai is the capital city of this fast developing south Indian state.
Uttarakhand
One of the Himalayan states and the home of the holy river Ganga, Uttarakhand is famous for its natural beauty. The lake Nainital, the Great Himalayan Ranges and various stages of the river Ganga and related Hindu holy places are the main attractions.
Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state and the place where the world’s largest monument for love, Taj Mahal located. Agra, Yamuma and Mughal monuments are the landmarks of Uttar Pradesh.
West Bengal
Bengal is the home land of India’s first Nobel Prize winner and the exponent of Bengali literature, Rabindranath Tagore. Kolkata is the capital and the most famous city. The place where the Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta begins her charity works.
