In this land of dazzling colours, the red has a special place.

In a traditional Hindu wedding, red is the colour that rules. It is the colour of the bridal attire accessorized by lots and lots of red bangles. The mehendi, the natural colouring used for the intricate designs adorning the bride’s hands and feet, is also red. After the wedding, the wife puts a pinch of vermillion in the parting of her hair everyday as a public statement of her marital status.
