Kapal Kundala - 1939
Kapal Kundala, a film based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel Kapalkundala, is a romantic film directed by Phani Majumdar. The film is remembered for its evergreen song, “Piya Milan Ko Jana”. The song “Piya Milan Ko Jana” by Pankaj Mullack is one of the most celebrated love songs in Hindi film industry and a masterpiece composition of Pankaj Mullack.
Produced by New Theatres and released in the year 1939, the film portrays the story of a forest dwelling girl, Kapalkundala (played by Leela Desai). Kapalkundala falls in love with a young man Nabakumar (played by Najmul Hussain) and is getting married to him. But she finds it difficult to adjust herself with the city life. Sailen Choudhury has also played a major role in this film.
