Directed by S.U. Sunny the 1948 film Mela explores the innocence and charm of rustic India. The film stars Dilip Kumar, Nargis, Jeevan, and Noor Jehan in lead roles. The film featured some of the super hit songs of that era composed by Naushad like “Ye jindagi ke meele.” This particular song made Rafi popular in the industry.
The title song “Dharti ko akash pukare” sung by Shamshad Begum became so popular that the producer was forced to include it in the film. Cinematography of Mela was handled by Fali Mistry and editing by Moosa Mansur.
