Mirza Ghalib - 1954

Directed by Sohrab Modi, the 1954 released Mirza Ghalib is the first Hindi film to win a National Award for the Best Film. A film based on the life of the famous Urdu poet, Mirza Ghalib and who was the court poet of the first Mughal King Bahadur Shah Zafar. The film stars Bharat Bhushan as Ghalib and Suraiya as his courtesan lover.

Music by Ghulam Mohammad, songs of the film became super hit. The famous ghazal " Nukta Cheen Hai Gham-E-Dil" is from this film. Other popular songs are “Ganga Ki Ret Pe Bangla”, “Dil-E-Nadan Tujhe Hua Kya” by Suraiya and Talat Mehmood, “Aah Ko Chahiye Ek Umar”, “Hai Bas Ke Har Ek Unke Ishare.”
