Former Indian President cremated with state honours

The body of the former President R. Venkataraman was cremated with full state honours in New Delhi. Scores of Indian leaders including President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, paid their last respects to the former president. Venkataraman succumbed to his prolonged illness on 27th January, 2009. He served as the country's head of state for five years till 1992.
