Symphony Celestial vol 2 Part 3, Kutiyattam

Kutiyattam is a popular classical theater form which originated in Kerala and is believed to be 2000 years old. Kutiyattam literally means ‘combined acting’ and is performed mostly by the chakiyars (a sub caste in Hindu community). It is usually performed in Sanskrit language in Hindu temples.

This dance form has been formally recognized by UNESCO as it is a masterpiece in Indian classical art form. This video shows the Parvathi Viraham, a citation in Kutiyattam rendered by Kalamandalam Sivan Namboodiri, a renowned Kutiyattam maestro.
