Yakshagana Part 5

Yakshagana is a popular dance drama which originated around 400 years ago in Karnataka state of India. Yakshagana literally means the song of ‘yakshas’. Yaksha is the name of certain celestial demigods in Hindu mythology.

The performance consists of dance, music and spoken words with themes based on epics from Hindu mythology. Kamsavadham, a tale which depicts the killing of Kamsa, the evil uncle of Lord Krishna is a dance form in Yakshagana. In this video, Kamsa, the demon king has a nightmare and he is frightened and disturbed.
