Purappad- Nangiarkoothu

Purappad is the characteristic entry in the performance of Nangiarkoothu, the ancient female solo dance of Kerala. This art form, which has an antiquity of 1500 years, is an allied art of Kutiyattam. Kutiyattam, the Sanskrit theatre of Kerala, is two millennia old and has been recognized by the UNESCO as one of the ‘Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’.

Nangiarkoothu adopts stories for performance from the classic text Sree Krishna Charitham, a depiction of Lord Krishna’s life and deeds. Margi Sathi, an accomplished artiste is seen performing here. Presently she is a faculty of Kutiyattam at Kerala Kalamandalam.
