How to make Sarkara Varatti - Onam Sadhya Recipe


  • Raw plantain - 4 (lengthwise and cut into thick pieces)
  • Grated jaggery ½ cup
  • Sugar ½ cup
  • Cumin powder ½ tsp
  • Dry ginger powder - 1 tsp
  • Cardamom powder - ½ tsp
  • Rice powder - ½ cup
  • Oil
  • Water

Sarkara Upperi - Method of preparation

Begin by boiling the oil well. Now fry the banana pieces in medium flame and after that keep it aside. Take half-a-cup of water in another vessel and boil the jaggery. Now add sugar to make the syrup. Turn off the flame. Add all the fried banana pieces, followed by ginger, and cumin and cardamom powders. Proceed to add the rice flour little by little, until the pieces become crispy enough.
