The Kavutheendal ceremony of Kodungallur, Thrissur

The Kavutheendal ceremony of the Bharani festival held at Kodungalloor Bhagavathy temple in Thrissur. The participants called komarams or velichappadus (oracles) dressed in red and brandishing ceremonial swords and singing earth songs in praise of Goddess (bharani pattu) run around the temple, striking the temple with sticks, which signifies the kavutheendal ritual also known ‘aswathy kavu theendal’.
