Featured here is a beautiful hoopoe known for its sweet melodious cry. The name hoopoe which imitates the cry of the bird is onomatopoeic in nature. Though exotic in appearance with its distinctive crown of feathers, rarely do we find them in dense jungles. They are open country birds usually found in savannas and broken woodlands. Hoopoes make their nests in all sorts of crevices, even in a granite wall crevice. They are the national bird of Israel.
