The presiding deity - Mahakali, the Goddess - was worshiped by the great poet Kalidasa. In this temple, the idol of Mahakali is placed between the idols of Goddess Mahalakshmi and Goddess Saraswati.

Devotees throng this temple especially during Tuesdays and Fridays to seek the blessings of their Mother Goddess, by offering her flowers and kumkum (saffron powder).
