University of Mumbai
The University of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in Maharashtra state in India is one of the oldest universities in India. It was established in 1857. The University of Mumbai was earlier known as University of Bombay. When the name Bombay changed to Mumbai, naturally the name of the University also changed.
This University is built in Gothic style of architecture. The very first college in Mumbai, affiliated to this University was St. Xaviers College in 1868. Earlier the University concentrated only on the under graduate level. But later on it took initiative to start post graduate level courses and to do research programmes.
The University of Mumbai has got five star rating from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The specialities of this University include Virtual Classroom and Central Computing Facility. Apart from academic excellence, this University has also excelled in extra-curricular activities including sports and games. This University has been a part of cultural activities in Mumbai from the beginning itself.
