Dhanushkodi near Rameshwaram, Tamilnadu

Dhanushkodi is a town situated at the southern tip of Rameshwaram in Tamilnadu state of India. It is located about 18 miles west of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. It is a popular pilgrim center for Hindus.

The legend is that Vibheeshana, a well-wisher of Rama and the brother of Ravana requested Rama to break the Sethu (bridge) at the place with one end of his bow and hence the name Dhanushkodi. Dhanush means Bow and Kodi means tip.

In 1964, a major cyclone destroyed everything in the place. This video shows the remains of the buildings affected by the cyclone.
