Kaveri River (also spelled Cauvery River) is an Indian river which originates at Talakaveri, Kodagu in the Western Ghats in Karnataka, a south Indian state. The name 'Kaveri' is said to have been obtained from the sage Kavera Maharshi to whom the river Goddess was given as a foster child by Brahma, the god of creation.
