Rameshwaram Temple, Tamilnadu

This video features the Rameshwaram Temple, one of the popular pilgrim centers in Tamilnadu state of India. Rameshwaram is an island and it is also known as the Banaras of the south. This temple was built in the 17th century.

To attain moksha or salvation, it is believed that one must visit Rameshwaram. Legend says that Lord Rama built a bridge across the sea here in order to rescue his beloved Sita from Ravana, the King of Lanka.

The presiding deity of the temple at Rameshwaram is the Linga of Sri Ranganatha, which is one in the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. It is a huge temple, where one would come across the traditional architectural style of the South Indian temples.
