Chakara, a marine wonder

A marine wonder, Chakara or Chaakara is seen in the coastal areas of Kerala in which a plenty of fish varieties are found as the result of mud bank formations. Chaakara, literally means huge shoals of fish or shrimp easily available for harvest. The time when ‘Chakara’ arrives is a godsend for the fisher folks of Kerala as it brings them a financially good time.

During monsoon season as the water level of backwaters rises and as a result, clay particles accumulate in a particular area in the sea which attracts the fishes to gather. This video features the moment when Chaakara arrived in Shanghumukham, one of the finest beach destinations in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.
