Baul Singer Smoking Hemp
Smoking is very much inherent to the nomadic life of the Baul singers. When religion and hemp smoke get into the nerves of these singers what emanates from their throat and ekthara is pure music that transcends the worldly boundaries. These mystic minstrels of Bengal consist of Vaishnava Hindus and Sufi Muslims. The atypical clothing, musical instruments and odd life style distinguish them from others. UNESCO has included the Baul tradition in the list of "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity."
