Pattadakal, a World Heritage Site, is located on the banks of the Malaprabha River in Bagalkot district of Karnataka state, India. The temples here stand as a living testimony to the richness of Chalukyan architecture. Pattadakal reached its zenith of glory under the Chalukya kings and has a cluster of  ten major temples, each with interesting architectural beauty.

At the entrance to the site one can see the 8th century temples of Jambulinga, Kadasiddeshvara, and Galaganatha with their curvilinear shikaras or spires.

The biggest temple here is dedicated to Virupaksha which has a huge gateway, several inscriptions, and a profusion of friezes from the epics. The Mallikarjuna temple and the ornate Papanatha temple are some of the otherd. The Sangameshwara temple dating from the reign of king Vijayaditya (696-733 AD) is the earliest temple in this complex.
