Oppana - traditional dance of Muslim community

Oppana is a traditional and an entertainment dance performed by the Muslim community in the Malabar region of Kerala. Performed as part of wedding celebrations, the art form is mostly performed by women and is noted for its colourful costumes and rhythmic steps.

Dressed in the traditional colourful attire, the bride would be seated in the middle. The dancers sing and dance around the bride, clapping their hands and teasing her about the nuptial bliss. Harmonium, Tambourine, Ilathalam (cymbals) and Tabla are the instrumental accompaniments.
