This unique festival is celebrated in the Major Kottankulangara Devi Temple at Chavara, Kollam, Kerala. Kottankulangara Chamayavilakku falls on the 10th and 11th of every Meenam of the Malayalam calendar year (March / April) as the conclusion of the festival at the temple. The most remarkable feature of this festival is men dressing themselves as women as part of the offerings made to the deity. The festival is celebrated at night with the well-dressed ‘damsels’ reaching the temple as a procession carrying lamps.
