Kumbamkudam at Manarcad temple - dancing with pots on heads

Located about kilometre north of Manarcaud junction in Kottayam district of Kerala, the ancient Manarcad Sree Bhagavathy temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali.

According to legends, the name Manarcaud came from the word Maniyerkadu. The Kumbha Bharani festival of the temple is celebrated in a grand scale.

The Kumbhamkudam festival attracts thousands of devotees every year. Kalamkarikkal, Karimguruthy, Nadaguruthy, Adimayiruthal etc. are some other ritual offerings of the temple.

To reach here, one may travel about 1.5 km northwards from Manarcaud junction on NH 220 (former K.K road) along the Manarcaud-Kidangoor road.
