Parumala Perunnal is the annual feast of the St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s church at Parumala in Pathanamthitta district. It is observed to commemorate the death anniversary of Geevarghese Mar Gregorios affectionately called as ‘Parumala Thirumeni’, the first canonised saint of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
The week-long annual festival starts with a colourful flag-hoisting ceremony in which thousands of devotees take part.
Special prayers and a colourful procession, mark the Orma Perunnal. Devotees from all over the state take part in the procession and special services. The festival comes to a close with a Holy Rasa.
