About 'Aattu kattil, the swinging bed of Kerala'

Aattu Kattil is an indoor swinging bed commonly found in Southern India. Otherwise called Sapra Mancham, the bed had once been an inevitable part of aristocratic homes in Kerala.

Aattu Kattil was commonly made with rose wood, teak and jackwood. The sculptural splendour of Kerala is very much evident in these wooden beds.

Intricate carvings and designs add charm to these special beds, which speak eloquently about the bygone days of artistic marvel.

This type of bed is not the pecularity of Kerala. This is found in almost all traditional old houses in rural areas of India,
