Traditional vegetarian feast in Hindu marriage: Sadya

It is colourful, splendid and gorgeous. Then why should it not be delicious as well? A sumptuous feast is an inevitable part of the traditional Hindu marriages in Kerala, India.

The feast is conducted after the marriage rituals are over. The bride wears the Manthra Kodi ( bridal dress) gifted by the groom before attending the feast. The traditional vegetarian meal, called Sadya, is a fine blend of six tastes- sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent. It consists of rice and tasty curries served on a plantain leaf. An order is kept in the serving of the dishes.

Snacks like chips are also part of the feast. A variety of Payasams or sweet desserts will be served at the end of the meal.
