About 'Hills of Munnar'

Munnar, one of the famous tourist destinations of Kerala, is located in Idukki district. The hills of Munnar are spread over the Rajamalai ranges of the Western Ghats. The highest peak of South India Anamudi is situated among the highranges of this popular hill station.

Once the summer resorts of the erstwhile British Government in South India, Munnar hills are at the confluence of three mountain streams -Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. The highrange area of of Munnar is famous for its tea plantations.

The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as the Kannan Devan Hills, after a powerful landlord in the Anchanad Valley. The Munnar region was also known as the High Ranges of Travancore.

In early mornings, one can see the fascinating scene of mist casting a soft veil over the hills.
