About 'Malik Deenar Mosque'

Malik Deenar Juma Masjid at Thalankara in Kasaragod district is one of the best-kept and most attractive mosques in Kerala. It is built in the traditional Kerala style of architecture, unlike many other mosques in the state with Islamic style of architecture.

The mosque is believed to have been founded by Malik Ibin Deenar. He is supposed to be the first to bring Islam to India. The mosque also contains the grave of Malik Ibn Mohammed, one of the descendants of Malik Ibin Deenar.

It is revered as the west coast centre of Islam. An annual festival commemorating Malik Ibin Deenar is an important event held at the mosque.
