Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga also has its origin in the tantrik tradition of Hindu sadhana. The Sanskrit word kundalini means ‘the coiled one’. It denotes the psychic energy, which lies dormant in the soul. The concept of shakti (power) is common as well as dominant in all tantras. The kundalini shakti lies dormant throughout one’s lifetime and one is quite unaware of its existence. It is in fact the spiritual potential that is within every individual. In the human body kundalini shakti is situated at the base of the vertebral column in a mystical circle known as mooladhara chakra. In the tantrik practice of kundalini yoga the kundalini shakti, symbolized as a serpent coiled three and a half times, is awakened and made to ascend through the sushumna nadi inside the spinal column until it gains union with Shiva, the Supreme Reality.
