The structure of Taj Mahal is a perfect fusion of Indian and Persian architecture. The dome is made of white marble. The Taj has been constructed on a huge marble platform. The entire portion is enclosed within a boundary wall with broad octagonal pavilions at the corners.
Semi precious stones are inlaid in the marble in beautiful patterns and this craftsmanship is known as pietra dura. Within the dome lies the jewel-inlaid cenotaph of the queen.
