Kalyanasougandhikam in Kathakali Part 5

Kathakali, one of the oldest theatre art forms is a classical dance drama which originated in Kerala, India in the 17th century. This traditional form of dance is associated with the myths in Hindu epics. The rendition of the play is through hand gestures and with body movements.

Kalyanasougandhikam is a dance bit from Kathakali dance drama which portrays Bhima, son of the wind god sets out in search of Kalyanasougandhikam, a rare flower as requested by his wife Panchali. This video presents Bhima, entering the Kadali groves where Hanuman, the monkey god is meditating. Hanuman being disturbed, searches for the person who has entered the Kadali groves.
