Buffer Zone in Silent Valley

Shown here is the territorial forest area situated around the Silent Valley National Park, which has been declared as the Buffer Zone by the state government on June 11, 2007. The 148 sq. km Buffer zone, an integral part of the national park, has been created around the park carving out 109 sq.km area from Mannarkkad Division and 39 sq.km from Nilambur South Division.

The Silent Valley National Park, situated in 89.52 sq.km area, is bounded by Attappady and Mannarkkad Ranges of Mannarkkad Forest Division on the eastern and southern sides and by Kalikavu Range of Nilambur south Forest Division on western and northern sides.

Silent Valley National Park, situated at Mannarkkad in Palakkad district in Kerala, India, is the core of the Nilgiri Bio-reserve in the Western Ghats.
