Nilgiri Flycatcher or Eumyias albicaudata

Being home to about 500 kinds of birds, the fauna of Kerala never cease to cast its magic upon a nature lover. No wonder that renowned ornithologists like Salim Ali had accepted this small state as their home away from home.

The Nilgiri Flycatcher (Eumyias albicaudata) is found in places of high elevations like Munnar. This bird is endemic to the Western Ghats. The cute little bird with a greyish blue colour gets its name from its habit of feeding on small insects like bees.

The nest of Nilgiri Flycatcher is also a cute one. It is a small green cup made of moss lined with fine rootlets placed in ledges or in hollow trees.
