Dharti Mata - 1938

Dharti Mata, a film which portrays the nuances of farming and mining, was released in 1938. Basically a triangle love story aired in rural background, the film also throws light on the strengths of collective farming. The conflict between agriculture and industry forms the story line.

Made both in Hindi and Bengali (Dasher mati), the film is noted for the introduction of counter-melody in Hindi films. It was Pankaj Mullick, the music director, who introduced this super imposing technique in both Hindi and Bengali films.

K.C. Dey, K.L. Saigal and Uma Shashi played the lead roles in the film has contributed some of their classic songs like Duniya Rang Rangili baba.. .

The film was directed by Nitin Bose and was produced by New Theatres.
