Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Himachal Pradesh, a popular travel destination of India. About 70% of the population are directly employed in this work. However, the cultivated area of the state is only 10.4 per cent.
The major agricultural products are cereals like wheat, maize and rice, pulses, potato, cash crops, mushroom and vegetable seeds. Due to its unique agro- climatic conditions, many fruits like apple, litchi, plum, cherry, peach, pear and apricot are being cultivated here. It is due to this that the state gets its name, ‘The fruit bowl of India’. |
