Bhatinda

Bhatinda is located in the Bhatinda district in the north Indian state of Punjab. This old city in the southern part of Punjab is where the battle between Guru Gobind Singh and the Mughals took place. Steeped in history, it has tales to tell about the common man’s battle for independence from the British and from princely rulers. But modern day Bhatinda speaks to the world through its agricultural products, handlooms and cotton products.

A travel through this city toggles your mind between the past and the present with old forts and thermal power plants. The Quila Mubarak popularly known as Bhatinda Fort is where the empress Razia was imprisoned. It is associated with Guru Gobind Singh also.

The Gurudwara Shri Haji Rattan is situated just 2 km from Bhatinda while  Damdama Sahib is about 18 miles from Bhatinda and important as the place where Guru Gobind Singh took rest after a furious battle  with the Mughals. He dictated the Adi –Granth once more here and called the place Khalse da takhat. Maiser Khana temple dedicated to Mata Jawala is visited by lakhs of devotees every year.

The Rose garden located close to the city with a wide variety of roses is a popular picnic spot as is the zoological park and tourist complex which is 6 km from Bhatinda. Bhatinda is one of the largest railway hubs in India and houses the largest military cantonment in Asia. As a travel destination, Bhatinda is gaining importance.
