Agra Fort - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Agra city is situated on the banks of river Yamuna. The city reminds us of the old settlements of the early Aryans, the Hindu kings and the glory of the mighty Mughals. Apart from the Taj Mahal, Agra has yet another important place to visit,  the famous Agra Fort constructed by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar the Great is in Agra.

In addition to the Taj, Agra has many majestic monuments that epitomize the high point of Mughal architectural achievement. The Great Fort of Agra is a fitting monument to Mughal architecture.

The Fort is encircled by massive double walls of red sand stone. The Fort has four main gates, now only two are in use, Amar Singh Gate and the Delhi Gate. The rest of the two gates, the water gate and the Darshani Gate or Darwaze, have been closed permanently.

The Fort is a complex of palaces, courts, mosques, baths, gardens and pleasure pavilions. Diwan-I-Khas, the great hall for private audience and Diwan-I-Am theatre hall for public audience are other parts of the Fort.

The Khas Mahal, the Palace of Mirrors, the pure white Pearl Mosque and the jewel like Nagina Masjid or gem mosque, the Grape Garden are some of the other things one can see inside the Fort. It is a must seen travel destination in the city of Taj.
