Flora of India

India has a wide variety of vegetation. In plant diversity India enjoys the tenth position. The Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has identified over 46,000 plant species so far. The vascular Indian flora comprises 15,000 species. About 1366 species are considered vulnerable and endangered. India can be divided into eight distinct floristic regions-  the Western Himalayas, the Eastern Himalayas, Assam, the Indus Plain, the Ganga Plain, the Deccan, the Malabar and the Andamans.
