Guru Rimpoche's Trungkar Tsechu

On this day, Sikkimese Buddhists pay homage to Guru Rimpoche or Guru Padma Sambhava. The guru, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, first introduced Buddhism in Sikkim and the inhabited regions of the Himalayas, in the eighth century.

During the Trungkar Tsechu, a dance drama enacting the eight manifestations of Padmasambhava is held at the Rumtek monastery.
