Gulmarg, a hill station destination, famous for adventure sports

Gulmarg is a majestic summer vacation destination, situated in the district of Baramulla in Kashmir state, India. A journey to this picturesque regal hill station would just mesmerize you with its beauty coupled with an exciting trip through agricultural fields, pretty villages and greenery.

It is said that Jahangir, a legendary Mughal king, had chosen this place as his favorite holiday spot.  

This beautiful hill station hosts the highest golf course in the world situated at an altitude of 2,650 meters (8694.22 feet) above the sea level, attracting innumerable visitors around the year. The State Tourism Corporation takes pride in maintaining this hundred year old golf course of world recognition. The Clubhouse here has a swiss chalet with its peculiar sloping roof-top adding its own charm to the surrounding beauty. If you wish to play golf, the required equipments are available on hire.

Gulmarg is a location which surrounds you with colour - green (plants and trees), white (snow), brown (mountains), blue (sky and flowing water) and other colors (flowers), providing you with an incentive to enjoy this delightful journey. Adding a spiritual air to this location, there is the ancient and famous sacred shrine of a Muslim saint, Baba Reshi.
 
Thirteen kms from this inspiring beautiful hill-station is the Alpather Lake, the best location for trekking which would take you through the encompassing forests of giant conifers and uneven greenery adding charm to the sight. Beyond Tangmarg, the climb to Gulmarg begins through the hill sides beautifully covered with fir trees.

Sledging activities bring crowds to this hill station during winters. Sledging is a slide down the snowed slopes. Sledges are provided to tourists. You need to navigate from the hilltop down the slope, to the base of the hill. Sledge-pullers are also available, if you are new to sledging.

This breathtaking location has proven its uniqueness worldwide through its Meadow of flowers, a beautiful spot attracting tourists. Adding advantage to all these scenic components is the ride in the cable cars (the Gondola ride), a spine-tingling journey from Gulmarg to Kongdori, taking you across and over the picturesque and translucent snow tipped pinnacles.

To reach Gulmarg by air, the nearest airhead is situated in the district of Badgam and Jammu is the nearest railhead. Batmallo is the nearest bus station from where local transports are available to reach Srinagar, 57 kms from Gulmarg.

The ideal times to visit this splendid location filled with charm and tranquility, are during May and September or between November and February.
