Organised by the Department of Tourism of Sikkim, the month-long tourism festival has been held every year since 1981.

For an entire month, the White Hall in Gangtok becomes the venue for traditional Sikkimese dance performances, screening of films on tourism, exhibitions of local arts and crafts, and flower shows which highlight the beautiful flowers of Sikkim like the orchids, the rhododendrons and the primulas. A yak safari, a food festival and white-water rafting on River Teesta are also a part of the festival.

Apart from the main month-long festival, there is also an annual three-day Heritage & Tourism Festival in the hamlet of Hee Bermiock in West Sikkim. The festival, organized by the Hee-Bermoik Tourism Development Cultural and Heritage Conservation Society from10th to 13th of May, showcases the culture of the State. Apart from the delightful ethnic cuisine, the organizers also provide home stay and camping facilities at Gufa Dara to visitors to the festival.
