Shimla Summer Festival

Date    :  May, 2011
Venue :  Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, known as God’s Abode because of its exquisite natural beauty, is one of the most charming places in India. Summer in Shimla is a special time for the people here as most of the year, this town, in the northern State of Himachal Pradesh, has below normal temperatures.

As the name suggests, the Shimla Summer Festival is usually held at the advent of summer. This year it will be celebrated in early June. Come May-June, there is singing and dancing and festivity all over Shimla as well as the rest of the State, which joins in the celebrations.

Both men and women sing and dance to offer thanks to God for a golden harvest and to pray for good fortune in the following year.
