Ottan Thullal, Garuda Garva Bhangam

Ottan Thullal is a 300 year old performing art of Kerala created by the legendary poet Kalakkathu Kunchan Nambiar. It has a predominant place in the cultural history of the state. Thullal is a solo performance and is a combination of dance, music and acting. Social criticism is the main theme of Ottan Thullal with humor as the backdrop.

This video shows Kalamandalam Geethanandan, a renowned artiste performing Garuda Garva Bhangam, a citation from Ottan Thullal. The play portrays Lord Krishna’s decision to temper the pride of his carrier Garuda (eagle, the king of birds). So he deputes Garuda to bring Hanuman (the wise old monkey god) who is the devotee of Lord Rama, knowing it is not an easy task.
