Feast for a king
The Onam feast - Onasadya - is a mouth-watering spread of nearly two-dozen items. The vegetarian feast usually is of 6-7 courses and the number varies from region to region. All members of the family wearing new clothes - Onakkodi will attend the feast. It was considered a must to cook and eat the Onam lunch at one's own residence, in front of a lighted lamp. No matter how poor, a person was not supposed to forego the Onam lunch, even if it meant selling his property.
